O jornal Manchester Evening News fez um levantamento dos gastos do Manchester City desde o começo da Era Premier League. Enquanto nas fases iniciais os gastos eram reduzidos e jogadores que chegavam eram desconhecidos do grande público, a história mudou a partir da chegada do Sheik Mansour em 1º de setembro de 2008.
A City chegou a contratar o ex- melhor jogador do mundo, o liberiano George Weah, sem custos, na fase decadente de sua carreira. Nos dias atuais, os Citizens podem contratar qualquer jogador que estiverem interessados, isso não quer dizer que virão, mas que tem grande verba para contratação, ah, isso o time tem.
